Make Death an Ally.
If this was the last day of your existence…
Would you sleep well at the end of the day knowing you’d given it your best shot?
Taken action on the important things?
Spent the time with those who matter, let them know how you feel?
It’s a great way to prioritise what is really important.
“Memento Mori”, it’s an age-old idea. A reminder that you are mortal.
A South American friend of mine would keep a decorated skull on her desk, a reminder on how to prioritise.
This was the topic of the last chapter of “From The Core” by John Wineland.
With so much awareness being given to “toxic masculinity”.
This book puts out the call for what is really needed from the “masculine”.
Positive, heart felt, authentic, leadership.
The book was a gift to me from Max Warren, our VirtualDOO COO.
Fitting, because Max exemplifies what the book is teaching.
Here were my key takeaways:
1. The Power of Presence
Presence is a crucial element in relationships and life.
By being deeply present, you can create safety, trust, and deeper connection with yourself and others.
2. Find Your Purpose
Know what drives you.
Find your mission. Without it, you’re lost. With it, you’re unstoppable.
Let it guide every choice you make to create a fulfilling life.
3. Emotional Awareness and Expression
Feel deeply, but don’t drown in it.
Know your emotions, but don’t let them rule you.
Express what’s true, not what’s easy.
Real strength comes from being honest with yourself and others.
4. Love with Depth
Lead with your heart. In relationships, create safety and trust.
Show up with love and integrity. When you do, love becomes a force, not a feeling.
It deepens, strengthens, endures.
5. Leadership and Integrity
Integrity is everything. Keep your word.
Do what’s right, even when it’s hard.
Lead by example, not by force.
Your worth is measured by actions, not intentions.
6. Daily Practice
Daily practices keep you grounded.
Breathe. Meditate. Move your body.
These rituals are your anchors in a chaotic world. They keep you connected to what’s real, to what matters.
7. Face the Fire
Life is full of tests. Face them head-on.
Every challenge is a chance to grow, to become better, tougher, more alive.
8. Community
Together, you rise higher. Alone, you falter.
Find your tribe. Surround yourself with those who challenge you, push you, hold you accountable.
