I was talking to my friend John Blake at a mastermind and we were sharing our most impactful books and John recommended this banger.
On the surface it all sounds simple.
However the fundamentals that Marshall Rosenberg outlines in his book “Non Violent Communication” have enabled him to defuse tensions with street gangs and have significant success as a peacemaker on the global stage.
At the core of it, it boils down to making observations without judgement, expressing feelings, communicating needs, and making clear requests.
Here were some of my key takeaways:
1. Observe Without Judging
Look at what is happening.
Describe it without adding opinions.
Just say what you see or hear.
2. Express Feelings
Share how you feel.
Use simple words like “happy,” “sad,” “angry,” or “scared.”
3. Identify Needs
Figure out what you need or value.
Say it clearly.
Needs are things like love, safety, and respect
4. Make Requests
Ask for what you want.
Be specific.
Use clear and positive language.
Talk soon,
Lloyd
