I got married last week.
And I was able to be completely present on our wedding day.
I wasn’t thinking about what was happening in Slack, I knew everything was in order and being taken care of.
For the week before and after the wedding, I attended just a couple of meetings.
And we onboarded 2 new clients.
I was “out of office” and the machine kept going.
This is because of having tight team and systems.
Social posts were queued and approved in advance.
Our internal COO (as opposed to the ones that work for just our clients) ensured everything was running smoothly.
Granted, I DO normally work more than this in my business, however, this is because I am working ON my business.
Growth, product evolution and a few content posts!
How did we get here?
When I worked in corporate land, I read “The 4-Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferris.
It blew my mind.
The idea of a business that can run without the founder stuck in the day to day.
Time and location independence.
This is what wealth is to me and I wanted it badly.
It was the seed that grew enough for me to decide I needed to get out of working in Corporate.
Because I knew what was possible.
Here were my key takeaways:
1. Lifestyle Design
Escape the 9-to-5 grind by designing a lifestyle where you control your time and focus on what you love.
Rethink traditional work habits and aim for a life of experiences, not just material success.
2. 80/20 Rule
Most of what you do doesn’t matter.
Cut out the noise and focus on the small things that bring big results.
3. Work Less, Live More
Outsource everything you can, from mundane tasks to key business functions.
Free up your time to focus on high-value activities and your passions.
4. Time Management
Traditional time management techniques are inefficient.
Working in short bursts, eliminate distractions and use time limits to force efficiency.
5. Mini-Retirements vs. Deferred Retirement
Instead of saving for retirement at the end of your career, take “mini-retirements” throughout your life.
This allows for regular breaks and adventure while you’re still young and healthy.
6. Passive Income
Build automated, scalable income streams, such as e-commerce, online courses, or information products.
What can generate revenue without constant personal involvement?
7. Fear Setting
Confront your fears by listing the worst possible outcomes and the steps to mitigate them.
This reframes risks and builds confidence.
8. Location Independence
You don’t need to be stuck in one place.
Work from anywhere.
The world is your office.
9. The New Rich
The book introduces the concept of “The New Rich”.
People who design their lives around maximizing freedom and experiences rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
